The Soul's Karma (2007)



In creating your soul’s blueprint, the Pre-Birth Council takes into consideration the lessons your soul proposes to learn and also the karma it needs to balance. Again, a lot of people don’t believe this concept. Possibly because they perceive it from the Hindu point of view, i.e. that it is a law of retribution that implies God’s interference with man’s affairs.

Theosophy offers a much more accurate explanation of karma. It sustains the thesis that order pervades in the Universe and that a divine plan governs all things. That not only in the physical world is the natural law of cause and effect operative but also in the realms of thoughts and feelings. That the operation of this law is truly a moral law as it is a physical law and operates whether or not we are conscious of it and that our destinies are shaped by it. Certainly without such a law, man would be drifting aimlessly through life.

According to theosophy, karma is therefore neither predestination nor fate. The law itself is impersonal, just like the physical law of cause and effect. Neither good nor bad, designed to teach and form a character. Reaction may be immediate or delayed. While it is true that accumulated karma of an individual helps or hinders his/her progress, he/she is still free to choose within the limits of his/her making.

In the words of another of my teachers, Russell Holland, the human will is dedicated to the preservation of the personality and the maintenance of current habits. It is designed to resist all external control, including the influence of the Soul. The human will is intelligent and can defend its freedom by pretending to be the voice of God or our guide to get its own way. The recognition and rededication of personal will is a major step on the disciple’s path.

So, when we are faced with a piece of unpleasant karma, we must seek to meet it constructively and modify it, remembering that it is in reality an opportunity to build new qualities of character. Courage and serenity in meeting misfortune and the persistent effort to eradicate all feeling of ill-will and resentment towards those who seem to be responsible for our unhappiness, will do much to mitigate both present and future effects. Our destiny is not imposed upon us, it is of our own making. Only by working with it, can we master this natural law. With the lessons learnt beyond the possibility of failure, nature’s purpose is accomplished.

Our planet, continents and all countries also have their own plans and karma. As with us, each is in their own stage of development. So when you’re preparing your soul’s plan with the Pre-Birth Council, a country most suitable for supporting your new plan is also carefully taken into consideration. Then the right parents and twin souls or soul mates. As you can imagine, a lot of preparation goes into your soul plan in order to optimise your new life.

Apparently the soul is also afforded two years of “karma grace” after it incarnates, to give it time to adjust to life on this planet and decide whether to stay or return home. Young lives lost through miscarriages, abortions or SIDS are most likely working with this period of grace, unless they are having actual physical problems that don’t support a physical life. My own brother chose to return home after only 6 months here and is not considering incarnating any time soon. Regretfully, this period of grace is not at all well understood, hence so much pain and suffering when a young life is lost in this manner. Not to mention the moral debates on abortion that wouldn’t exist if everyone recalled that the soul enters the body immediately before or during birth. Therefore, from a spiritual perspective, there is no termination of any life through abortion.

It is very different with capital punishment and/or suicide. No matter what a person has done to “warrant” the taking of his/her life, nobody on this planet has the right to take life from another human being, including one’s own. A life on this planet is a great gift, no matter how a person chooses to live it. It is the criminal’s choice to live a life of crime. It is not up to any other human being to create bad karma for him/her self by punishing a criminal in this way. As the saying goes, “God gives life, God and only God takes it away”. If a criminal loses a life in this manner, he/she is being denied an opportunity to learn from his/her actions. An oppressive life in jail would most likely provide a better opportunity. Capital punishment laws Capital punishment laws and suicide acts demonstrate a lack of understanding of and respect for spiritual laws. The spiritual law of karma will require their eventual balancing. 

Lessons learnt:

  • Karma is an impersonal law of CAUSE and EFFECT, designed to teach and progress the soul

  • The purpose of karma is to balance the effects of all your actions

  • The law operates whether you believe it or not
